News and Surf Report by Tim Brennan

Rincon, on the west coast of Puerto Rico, has been a stellar October as the winter surf season begins. Unlike last year, September had no spectacular days but October has seen waves most everyday. Right up to Halloween and into November the swells were rolling in.

Most days were in the chest to head high range but there were days in the overhead department at spots like Dogman's, Maria's, Indicators, and Antonio's. The north coast had it's share of surf at places such as Surfer's Beach, Jobo's and Middles. Water temperature is in the 80°F range (as always). The famous wave at Tres Palmas has yet to break this season but we are just getting started here.

If October is any indication of what kind of winter we are going to have, the next few months should be full of waves and we will be surfing until the sun goes down. Steve Fitzpatrick, photographer at large, has returned for the winter and will be seen from east side to west side haunting the best lineups on the best days. The female surfer population has increased and its nice to see the chicas in the lineup instead of just a bunch of dudes. Sometimes it is nothing but the femmes on the peak. No complaints here.

A large shark was seen cruising from Sandy Beach towards Antonio's. Several witnesses estimated the gray-suited cruiser at a healthy fifteen feet. There are reports of drunkeness, debauchery and general rabble rousing in the night as everyone is in good spirits after having great sessions day after day. I shan't go into detail, though.

Thats is it for now - next month should be a good one.
