    Tortoal BVI a great spot

    Surf Travel

Pure Vacations adds Tortoal BVI to its arsenal of worldwide surfing spots

The British Virgin Islands are among the world's loveliest surfing grounds. What is the most amazing about the surf here is the variety and quality of the surf. This has attracted a handful of professional and soul surfers to this region for years. This unique destination is now included within the Pure Vacations surf programme.

Powdery white-sand beaches, lush green mountains, and great surf characterize the island of Tortola, where the past of the West Indies meets the present of the BVI. The largest island in the chain of British Virgin Islands, Tortola offers a variety of exciting vacation possibilities, not just surfing

Apple Bay Beach is just over the hill from Long Bay. Here, on any day in season you can see at least a dozen surfers from all over the world. The bay is also known for its full moon parties at Bomba's Surfside Shack, as well as the Friday night fish fries hosted by local residents under the banyon trees.

The people of Tortola are friendly and known for their warmth and hospitality. Although named by Columbus, many diverse groups of people have called the Virgin Islands home. Each community has contributed to the islands, creating the rich cultural tapestry that is the British Virgin Islands.

The BVI's weather is warm, subtropical, and sometimes humid, with temperatures moderated by trade winds and the environment is superb for a truly unique and special surfing holiday. The water temperature is board shorts all year.

One reason that the BVI has remained one of 'Nature's Little Secrets' is that there are no direct flights from the USA, Canada, Europe or South America to our main airport - the Terrence B. Lettsome Airport (EIS) which is located on Beef Island, a cay that is linked to Tortola by the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. All flights must connect through another Caribbean airport such as San Juan, St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Kitts or St. Maarten/St. Martin.

Flights via San Juan, Puerto Rico Airport Code SJU: The most direct way to arrive to The BVI is via San Juan, Puerto Rico. Frequent connecting service is offered by American Eagle, Caribbean Sun, Cape Air, and Liat, with occasional service by other airlines and charter flights.

Flights via St. Thomas - Airport Code STT: If you choose to arrive via St. Thomas, you'll have to arrange a charter flight to Tortola, Virgin Gorda or Anegada. Most travelers take one of the frequent ferries that travel between downtown Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook, St. Thomas and Tortola.

Pure Vacations can assist you in selecting the best flights so that you can experience a holiday of a lifetime and escape the surfing crowds.
