There is a new school of surfing around and it's not the same old slow hang ten wave riding. It's skateboarding tricks in the water! Rodeos, back flips, barrel roles, finger flips, and aerial acrobatics! Throw away the scorecards because these tricks aren't even in the book! Mercoledì 27 ottobre prende il via la tappa conclusiva del Campionato Italiano 2004 di surf da onda. La gara finale, organizzata dal Santa Marinella Surf Club e sponsorizzata dalla Rip Curl Italia, avrà luogo presso Banzai Beach, via Aurelia km 56,300 (Santa Marinella - Roma).
L’appuntamento e’ previsto per atleti e pubblico a partire dalle 7:30 del mattino, con chiusura del contest prima del tramonto. Seguirà premiazione all’Hotel Portofina, nei pressi della spiaggia Banzai Beach.
Rip Curl Pro 2004 è un importante surf-contest, che si propone come un appuntamento annuale dove i migliori atleti possono aggiudicarsi il titolo di Campione Italiano. Ed è un evento sportivo che prende sempre maggiore importanza, soprattutto alla luce dell’impegno che la comunità del surf da onda sta mettendo per far entrare questa disciplina sportiva alle olimpiadi come sport dimostrativo.
Il mese di ottobre è considerato dagli esperti come uno dei migliori mesi dell’anno per surfare onde di qualita’. Le perturbazioni atlantiche tipiche della stagione sono più frequenti ed entrano nel Mediterraneo con maggiore forza, producendo onde significative.
A questo basta aggiungere che la temperatura eccezionalmente mite di quest’anno, sia dell’aria che dell’acqua, promettono una gara spettacolare e di sicuro successo.
E’ previsto l’arrivo dei più importanti campioni italiani di shortboard ma anche la partecipazione dei giovanissimi juniores e ragazze surfiste, con una buona affluenza di pubblico da ogni parte della penisola. Tra i migliori atleti del Rip Curl Pro 2004, citiamo il pluricampione Paolo D’Angelo (di ritorno dall’Australia), il team Rip Curl con Alessandro Marcianò e Federico Vanno, i toscani Francesco Palatella, Stefano Giuliani, Jacopo Conti e Diego Gabrielli. E ancora Manuel Maffei di Civitavecchia, Alessio Fantozzi di Santa Marinella, il team Hot Buttered e tanti altri surfisti professionisti provenienti da Sicilia, Toscana, Lazio, Liguria e Sardegna.
Tra le tante ragazze che partecipano alla finale 2004 è in gara la campionessa italiana Maria Laura Temporini. Mentre tra i giovanissimi, per la categoria juniores, è prevista la partecipazione di Roberto D’Amico, che ha ottenuto un ottimo piazzamento ai campionati europei, appena terminati, in Portogallo.
Il contest di mercoledì 27 ottobre vedrà in acqua varie batterie composte da 4 atleti ognuna.
Ogni indosserà una lycra di colore differente (per poter essere riconosciuti). I giudici dal palco attrezzato, presieduto da Graziano Lai riconosciuto per la sua professionalità anche in campo internazionale, valuteranno le manovre più precise e spettacolari eseguite da ciascun surfista, nell’arco di 20 minuti (tempo di ogni batteria); un susseguirsi di heat fino ad arrivare alle semifinali e alla finale che decretarà il campione italiano 2004.
