4TH CASUARINA FESTIVAL
CELEBRATING SURFING AND THE BEACH LIFESTYLE
TOP SURFING – TOP BANDS - FREE ENTERTAINMENT
If you’re looking for a great family day out without breaking the budget, the Casuarina Festival is the place to be.
Billed as the perfect family beach break, it’s a celebration of surfing and the beach lifestyle that goes with it.
Held on the 30th and 31st October, it’s a weekend of some of the best free entertainment on the Tweed Coast. It’s also a showcase for some of the world’s top professional surf stars together with a junior surf competition to nurture the next generation.
Saturday sees the Watermans Open Ocean Paddle Board Race – at 28kms and with a purse of $8,500, it’s the longest and richest in Australia.
On Saturday night, the Casuarina International Beach Ball will be a chance for everyone to let their hair down and dance the night away.
The surf action will run all weekend with the Casuarina Surf Classic, presented by Foxtel, featuring some of Australia’s greatest names together with some of the Tweed Coast’s rising stars and junior hopefuls.
On Sunday, Casuarina Beach will be well and truly rocking, thanks to a great entertainment program headed by Australia's favourite party band, Mental As Anything and hottest local band, Max Judo.
The festival’s Sunday program promises to be action-packed and the idea is something for everyone in the family. There’ll be market stalls, kids’ activities - including a mechanical surfboard – and even gourmet fare from top local restaurants, including Casuarina’s own Sandbar + Grill. And of course, the festival will be fully licensed.
Casuarina’s developer, Don O’Rorke, who is the driving force behind the festival, says bringing the surf celebration to Casuarina was an easy decision. Casuarina wanted to contribute to the Tweed community at all levels and what better way than to celebrate the ocean and all it has to offer in terms of sport, play and cultural activities.

Local Community Group in Need of Accommodation
Local community group, Surfrider Foundation Australia, are desperately seeking accommodation after they received news that their rented headquarters in Currumbin would no longer be available to them.
The National Office of the Surfrider Foundation of Australia received notice to vacate its premises earlier this week and are now seeking alternative accommodation.
General Manager, Stuart Ball, knew that they would have to leave sooner or later but was caught unawares when notified last Monday.
“We have been conscious of the fact that we would have to move from rented accommodation some day and we have been vigilant in keeping an eye out for alternative office and preferably shop space.”, said Mr Ball.
The foundation has applied for community accommodation in the past and are now desperate to find a place before their lease runs out on December 8.
“We have applied for places with Currumbin RSL, Wildlife Sanctuary, Gecko, Coolangatta VMR, Coolangatta Special School and various shopping centres and businesses in the region this year in Currumbin.”
Surfrider Foundation Australia play an important part in maintaining our precious coastal environments through education and conservation and need new office space in order to continue their valuable work.
Anyone with office or shop space or any sort of temporary accommodation should contact Surfrider immediately and help this group continue their care for the coast.
For more information : Lisa Hansberry National Secretary, at the National Office on Monday or Friday on 07 55342855 or Mr Stuart Ball National General Manager, at the National Office on Monday or Friday on 07 55342855.
