Jesus Surf Classic, enters its 16th year

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 September, 2008 : - - Croyde Bay, North Devon once again hosts the Jesus Surf Classic, over the weekend of 13th - 14th September. This hugely successful event has now been running for sixteen years, and this year already entries are filling up fast.

As with last year due to the continuing growth in the longboarding event Christian Surfers UK will be running this as a seperate event, the 'Jesus Longboard Classic'. This will be held at Polzeath over the weekend of 18th - 19th October, and expanded to include Open, Junior and Women's categories. More details of this will follow soon.

The 'Jesus' is organised and run by Christian Surfers UK, with over £1500 of prize money on offer, between the 7 categories, with the open surfing winner receiving £250. Last year's event was over subscribed with over 140 entries, so contestants are being advised this year to get their entry forms in early.

As before, over 100 Christian Surfers helpers from around the country will be involved in organising the weekend, making it as pleasurable as possible. There will be a skate park, marquee, BBQ and surf and skate movies shown on the large screen. There will be a skateboard competition on Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the new and improved skate park built specifically for the event. We are looking forward to seeing even more skaters coming down to get involved with this.

The standard of surfing as always will be very high, with Joss Ash winning the 'open' division last year, Tom Butler the U18, and Gwen Spurlock the 'Ladies', but it is also a great opportunity for those wishing to enter their first competition to get involved.

There is an agreed  2-½ day special rate for the campsite with Parkdean Holidays for competitors and their supporters.  This means that no one has to leave their pitch by 10.00am on Sunday morning.  When booking your camping mention the special deal and get the special rate.

The Jesus Surf Classic has become one of the biggest and longest running surf contests in the UK, and Christian Surfers UK are once again very much looking forward to hosting it at what is one of the best breaks on the North Coast, Croyde Bay. A big thanks to Parkdean Holidays for there support of this event.
