19th annual Waterman's Weekend goes even greener
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 August, 2008 : - - Aliso Viejo, Ca -- The SIMA Environmental Fund Board of Directors is proud to announce new additions for this years Watermans Weekend, making it the greenest Watermans to date. The 19th annual Waterman's Ball will feature for the first time a high-demand hybrid vehicle in the live auction, as well as more environmentally friendly event tote bags, t-shirts, and annual Watermans planning calendars.
A 2008 Nissan Alitma Hybrid, provided by Surf City Nissan, will be one of the highlights of the live auction this year. Boasting 35mpg and up to 600 miles on one tank, there's no better way to increase your MPG, decrease your impact on the environment, and support the Watermans beneficiaries than buying this hybrid automobile during the live auction.
This high-demand hybrid is a limited availability vehicle that's only offered in nine states and surpasses Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) standards. Valued at more than $28,000, it is also 90% cleaner than the average new model year vehicle.
The vehicle's Advanced Technology Classified Hybrid System of shared gasoline and electric motor also meets the ultra-stringent Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) requirements, including the near-zero evaporative emissions and 15-year/15,000 mile warranty on emissions control equipment.
Finding new ways to reduce the footprint of Watermans Weekend on the environment is a priority every year, says Paul Naude, president of the SIMA Environmental Fund Board of Directors, and CEO of Billabong USA. We are always looking for new and improved ways to make the event greener and this year we are pleased to have been able to work with great partners which allowed us to implement and offer a variety of more environmentally-conscious features at the Watermans Ball.
Other green items at the Watermans Ball will include an exclusive Watermans Ball tote bag constructed in recycled fabric and generously donated by Surroundings International, Inc. For the first time, the official Watermans Ball T-shirts will be 100% organic cotton thanks to Anvil T-Shirts.
Lastly, the highly anticipated annual Watermans Ball Planning Calendar for 2009 is printed on New Leaf Reincarnation matte paper, made with 100% recycled fiber and 50 % post-consumer waste. In the calendar you can read the New Leaf Paper Environmental Benefits Statement, which shares exactly how many trees and how much water and energy was saved during the production of the calendar just by using recycled paper.
