THE BILLABONG PRO COSTA RICA
Billabong USA presents the Billabong Pro Costa Rica, (Mens 2 star, and Womens 1 star) the only Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) events to be held in the country this year.
The Billabong Pro Costa Rica is March 23-25.
Playa Hermosa/Jaco, Costa Rica.
Both events have attracted men and women surfers from Argentina, Brazil, California, Costa Rica, Florida, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela, as well as a few Europeans, Australians and South Africans. In order for surfers to compete in this series, they must be members of the ASP during the 2001 tour year.

The Billabong Pro Men´s event is a 2 Star WQS event, and the Billabong Pro Women´s event is a 1 Star WQS event, sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals, the organization that controls professional surfing globally.
The competition format will be decided by the number of contestants entered, and will be run to standard ASP WQS 2001 event rules. Al Hunt, the ASP International Tour Director will do the seedings and contest draw sheet.
The ASP 2001 judging criteria will be used by five ASP rated judges. In attendance are Mike Martin (head judge), Midget Smith, Tim Williams, Jason Lagadere, Bill Sharp, Jamie Lagadere and Scott Crump.
The surfers receive US $25,000 in prize money at the event.
Donavon Frankenreiter and the band Sunchild will perform at the pre and post event celebrations.
