Key amateur surfing series begins this weekend in Queensland

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 August, 2014 - Surfing’s Junior Stars to compete this weekend at the 2014 Queensland State Junior Titles. A new group of Queensland’s hottest up-and-coming surfers will line up on the Gold Coast this weekend for event one of the two-event Queensland State Junior Title Series.

In 2014, the Under 18 girls division is shaping up to be a fiercely contested battle between competitors who already have some serious scalps to their names.

Reigning Under 18 Champion, Isabella Nichols (Coolum, QLD) will need to hold off fellow Sunshine Coast stars Sophie McCulloch (Moffat Beach, QLD), Vittoria Farmer (Noosa Heads, QLD) and the Gold Coast’s Lucy Callister (Burleigh Heads, QLD) if she’s going to defend her title in 2014.

In his first year in the Under 18 Boys division, North Stradbroke’s Ethan Ewing will be looking to make an impact early this weekend having come back from a serious injury late in 2013. Ewing will first have to get past an in-form Quinn Bruce (Coolangatta, QLD) if he’s to bank early ratings points.

The second event of the two-event series will be held on the Sunshine Coast 13-14 September where all State Junior Champions will be crowned and Queensland Team selected to compete at the forthcoming Australian Junior Titles.

The top placed Under 18 male and female competitors at series’ end will each receive a wildcard into the elite 2015 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials and give them the opportunity to match up against the world’s best surfers in a major World Tour event.

Surfing Queensland‘s State Titles Series is a key stepping stone in the developmental pathway for young competitive surfers. This year’s winners will be following in the footsteps of Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge who are just a few of the high profile athletes who have previously competed in the Queensland State Junior Titles Series.
