2nd Annual Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic Announced

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 April, 2006 : - - Behemoth, LLC is please to announce the 2006 Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic. Building on the success of last year’s surf contest, organizers have invited a globally diverse group of professional and amateur big wave surfers to compete in 2006.

The contest will have a waiting period from October 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006 and will be held at Nelscott Reef, in Lincoln City, OR. Last year’s contest was so sucessful that Behemoth, LLC comitted to run the event again this year during the 2005 award ceremony.

“We have had nothing but excellent feedback regarding the 2005 contest.”, said organizer John Forse. “Many of the competitiors had never surfed the reef prior to the contest, but now that they have had a taste of Oregon surf and know how good it can be, they want more”

The inaugural event was held December 11, 2005 in near perfect conditions. A 12’ swell produced solid 20-30’ waves all day, and despite its reputation, Oregon was sunny and warm.

The window of last years contest was Oct 15th through December 15th, and the contest was called with just a few days before it expired.

Organizers have chosen to lengthen the window for 2006 to allow for an even greater chance of perfect conditions.

A non-elimination format will be used again this year, with the top 4 combined scores advancing to the fi nals.

“The format was great last year. It allowed the surfers to concentrate on getting the best waves, rather than the most.

There was also an emphasis on safety, with a priority system assigned to each heat. The two combined elements helped make this event run so fl awlessly.”, said Adam Wagner of Action Sports Northwest, a major sponsor in 2005.
