3rd annual South African Surfing Awards come to Durban

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 March, 2009 : - - The third annual South African Surfing Awards, proudly presented by Zigzag Magazine in association with Paarl Web, will take place on 25 April 2009 at Suncoast Casino in Durban. This prestigious black-tie evening looks to honour the best of the best in South African surfing, from the legends to current crop of performers who continue to shape the sport and lifestyle.

“We’re really stoked to be presenting this landmark evening again in 2009” said Will Bendix, editor of Zigzag. “The past two years have been epic and phenomenally well supported, and what this really allows us to do as a community is shine a spotlight on the incredible wealth of culture, history and talent that makes up South African surfing. And we’ve got a lot to celebrate.”

Highlights of the evening include the induction of surfing legends into the Hall of Fame, which honours an elite group of surfers who have paved the way for SA Surfing. Current members include Max Wetteland, Mike Larmont, Spider Murphy, Graham Hynes and Shaun Tomson amongst others.

The most anticipated award is the announcement of the Surfer of the Year, which looks to recognize the surfer who exceeded all expectations and achieved both locally and internationally in the year gone by.

Other awards include:
- A Contribution to Surfing Award;
- The Pushing the Boundaries Award;
- Photographer of the Year;
- The ASP Africa Champions;
- The Blowing-up Performer Award
