Pippi Beach delivers for The 2015 Australian Skin Cancer Clinics NSW Longboard Titles

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 June, 2015 - Yamba, Australia - The 2015 Australian Skin Cancer Clinics NSW Longboard Titles presented by HIF crowned its first champion today after a series of hotly contested heats in three-to-four foot waves at Pippi Beach, Yamba.

The Over-65 Men wrapped up their campaigns today with all surfers getting the opportunity to surf twice in an attempt to clutch a NSW title.

Alan Atkins (Suffolk Park) made a clean sweep in both finals. Atkins claimed the heats with a series of respectable scores, including one heat total that saw him notch up 12.67 points (out of a possible 20 points). After nailing down an early lead in both finals, Atkins never looked back as he managed to hold off all his fellow competitors throughout the duration of both heats to take the win.

“There are no more divisions for me to surf now. I simply started at the bottom and now I’ve gone to the top, so to speak,” laughed Atkins. “I’m just stoked that I’m still surfing alongside all these guys. We’re lucky that our sport allows us to continue to do it right up until we get to divisions like this and we still really enjoy it. I had a hip operation back in September last year, so I wasn’t sure how it would go. I’m stoked that it stood up to the test.”

Fellow top-three place-getters, Phillip Clifford (Stuarts Point) and Phil Nichol (Manly) joined Atkins in cementing their position into the upcoming Australian Surf Festival in Coffs Harbour in August.

Competition will commence each day at 7:30am with the call for the days schedule and location confirmed via the event hotline at 6:45am. The event hotline is 0458 247 212.

The four-day event - which runs from 17th – 20th June - will see over 150 competitors battling it out in hope of booking their spot in NRMA NSW Longboard Team for the Australian Surf Festival in Coffs Harbour.

Competitors have come from as far south as Tomakin and as far north as Tweed Heads to enter the event.

Yamba Golf and Country Club will serve as the official social hub of the 2015 Australian Skin Cancer Clinics NSW Longboard Titles presented by HIF and host all presentations as well as function for the State of Origin on Wednesday 17th, June.

Please see surfingnsw.com.au for more information.

The Australian Kneeboard Titles round two will also take place on Sunday, 21st of June in the same region and bookend the event.

Surfing NSW intends to mix up locations for the events depending on conditions and will seek the most appropriate waves for each discipline.
