Animal Beach Ball

Newquay, Fistral Beach 15/16/17 JULY
Polzeath, Tristram Cliff 20/21/22 JULY

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 June, 2005 : - - Now in its third highly successful, the Animal Beach Ball will be bouncing across Cornwall with a vengeance this summer providing the ultimate feel good surf   festival.   An A team line up of some of the best surf names on the water can be caught in action, along with a full on entertaining mix of, music, entertainment, partying and inspiration.

It all starts in traditional Brit Surf style on Newquay’s Fistral Beach on the 15th, 16th and 17th July where everyone, from hard core surf fans to beach goers will be able to enjoy the great atmosphere and action for which the event is renowned.  Spectator friendly, innovative competition style makes for real audience involvement with what happens out on the water, meanwhile on the beach there’s everything from face painting to fashion and robots to Animal Braun Mountain Bike roadshows featuring Animal rider and British legend, Martyn Ashton.

When the sun goes down, the surf festival vibe rises to the occasion with live music and parties taking place, featuring some of the coolest acts around in the spotlight at the hottest of summer surf events.

The Animal Beach Ball will showcase names that are really putting a buzz into British surfing such as Alan Stokes and Josh Knowles who will be taking to the waves for the Carve Magazine Surf Battle.  This innovative and very format event sees competitors using every surfing skill and sheer nerve to claim their most impressive wave of the day before the judges.  It all makes for breathtaking action that keeps onlookers gripped as surfers pull out all the stops to bust one fantastic move to win the day!

On the 20th, 21st and 22nd of July the Animal Beach Ball bounces on to Polzeath following last year’s fantastic festival there as surfers go head to head for the overall event championship title.   It all ends in fantastic style, with Cornwall’s own surf rock party, the K Festival taking place at St Minver on the 23rd July.

Nick Grocott, Marketing Manager for Animal comments, “Last year’s Animal Beach Ball was the most amazing yet.  The mix of the brilliant beach roadshow and one of the most innovative contests on UK soil provides both the surfers and the spectators with a completely different experience and we can’t wait to see them all out there cutting it again. “

Animal Beach Ball 05 is capturing the imagination of everyone who enjoys summer surf style.  It’s the ultimate chance to really experience the fun and fantastic action that goes with the whole Brit-surf scene.

Not content with blazing the North Coast of Cornwall for the last two years with top British surfers battling it out for the Wavemaster title and loads happening on land, the Animal Beach Ball is back for year three.

At sea the Carve Surf Battles are recommencing on Fistral (15 – 17 July) and Polzeath (20 – 22 July). The surfing is staying true to the ‘Shoot Out’ format – with each surfer claiming one big move by putting their hands up and getting out of the water, hoping no-one pulls a bigger move in the time remaining.

The top Brits will be fighting to claim their share of the £10k prize fund, and snatch the Animal Wavemaster title from the hands of last year’s winner, Animal team rider Josh Knowles.  This year a Honda Zoomer bike worth £2000 is up for grabs for the winner. Carve is also running ladies, longboard and Grommet’s Cup divisions at the contest.

Surfer’s Against Sewage are holding the SAS Tag Team event. Teams of four working together to win £800 first prize.
On land there is loads to get involved with in between the surf heats … see what is possible on two-wheels at the Animal Braun Cruzer 3 Bike demos with Martyn Ashton and King of Dirt jumping, Grant ‘Chopper’ Fielder.  Enter the Shark Volleyball tournament for some great prizes or test your balance on the Red Stripe surfboard rodeo. Otherwise just chill at the bar to the sounds of live bands and DJ’s all day.
Animal and Barefeet are also proud to be hosting a TSRUK fundraising event … more information to be announced. This year the Animal Beach Ball is committed to maintaining awareness of the effects of the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean and ensure that aid and help is still going out to the victims to help them rebuild their lives.

For the first time this year, the Animal Beach Ball will be holding a surf art & photography exhibition – a chance to see and buy surf-inspired work from UK artists.  This will include the Twentyfourseven live graffiti wall and other art in action.
At night the fun continues at the Koola in Newquay and the now infamous end of tour party, the K Fest, in Polzeath.

The Koola club in Newquay is hosting very special guests Jackson United (Foo Fighter’s Chris Shiflett) on Friday 15th July for the Jagermeister Animal Rock Night.  Then Kosheen take centre stage at the Official Animal Beach Ball party on Saturday 16th July.
The K Fest (Sat 23 July) have confirmed the legendary Happy Mondays on the main stage with supporting acts Dreadzone Live, The Subways, the Magic Numbers and too many more to mention.   The Jelly Jazz stage will host DJ Pete Isaac, Griff and London Elektricity Live.

There is more than just music at the K Fest this year – check out Animal team rider Jamie Squibb at the Freestyle Moto X demo. This guy jumps 40ft into the air and lets go of his motorbike. It’s nuts. And if that’s not enough, watch Chopper pull off massive back flips on a mountain bike, or Martyn Ashton show true skill and balance on a bike on top of a Mitsubishi L200 jeep.
