Aguerre-founded Ala Moana re-opens its doors in Mar del Plata

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 December, 2013 -- Ala Moana was founded by Fernando and Santiago Aguerre alongside their mother Norma Mattalia, in 1979. It was the first surf shop of its kind in Argentina, in the city of Mar del Plata.

Since its opening in 1979, Ala Moana was not only a surf shop, but also a center for surf culture. It was a gathering place and an inspiration during the times when surfing was prohibited by the military in Argentina. Fernando Aguerre fought against this ban that was eventually lifted.

Ala Moana, which in Hawaiian means 'road to the sea', re-opens its doors to the public celebrating surf culture in Argentina. Fernando and Santiago Aguerre, with Roberto Sotura, were there to celebrate the shop's reopening.
