Arnette NSW Junior Surfing Titles continues to shine
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 July, 2009 : - -Boomerang Beach, NSW -- The best junior surfers in NSW continued to go from strength-to-strength today, raising the bar on day two of the Arnette NSW Junior Surfing Titles. With the NSW mid north coast dishing up another picture postcard day, Boomerang Beach was again the backdrop.
Littered with current and former World and Australian junior champions, as well as top-rated ASP Australasian Pro Juniors, the 16 years and under division continued on into the quarter final stages, with the semi-final places locked in. Reigning under 16 years Australian champion Cooper Chapman (North Narrabeen, NSW) led from the front with a series of devastating manoeuvres highlighting his dominance on the event.
Taking apart the shifting peaks of Boomerang, Chapman accrued an impressive heat total of 14.60 (out of a possible 20) which saw his fins freed at every opportunity. Im feeling quite comfortable, Chapman said after qualifying for the semi-final stages. Hopefully I can continue this run.
Despite the prestigious national title that he holds dearly, Chapman is desperately chasing the Arnette NSW Junior Surfing Title one which has eluded him thus far in his fledgling career. This is a massive contest for all the juniors throughout the state, he said. Its a great opportunity to test yourself against the best in NSW and hang out with your mates.
Pipped at the post in the final of last years event, he is looking at redeeming his heartbreaking loss this year. I want it bad this year, he admitted.
Defeated in that very final by Matt Banting (Port Macquarie, NSW), Chapman may see him again if he progresses as Banting continued to stamp his class on the event today. Accruing a near perfect heat total of 18.75 (out of a possible 20), Banting is looking sharp running into the business end of proceedings.
Running from Wednesday, 29 July to Sunday, 2 August 2009, the Arnette NSW Junior Surfing Titles day event will see 220 surfers battle it out across six divisions for prestigious State Titles and selection into the esteemed Arnette Australian Junior Surfing Titles.
With an increase in swell anticipated to hit the mid north coast in the upcoming days the final days of competition are shaping up to be awesome.
