Leonardo Fioravanti to Lead Junior Troops

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 June, 2014 - Espinho, Portugal: Just a week shy of launching the ASP 2-Star Men’s and Women’s Espinho Surf Destination, we’ve briefly caught up with 2013 European Junior Champion Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA) 16, about his motivation going into the European season opener.

ASP Europe: Hey Leo, do you feel any sort of added pressure in this first event ?
Leonardo Fioravanti: A little bit yes, last year I was going for the title and after winning the Canarian event I pretty much had it in the bag, but it’s always harder to defend a title, so I'm going to give it all I have and we’ll see how I go !
ASPE: Do you know the area of Espinho ?

LF: I have never been there, but I really like Portugal, the food is good, the people are nice and usually we have great waves too so I'm excited !
ASPE: How active were you this past winter in preparing the coming season ?

LF: I have been doing so many trips, this winter I went to hawaii, Australia, Ecuador, Mexico and Brazil, surfed some really good waves ! Now I'm back in Hossegor training and getting physically ready for the first junior !
ASPE: Thank’s a lot for your time
At only 16 years old, Fioravanti has conquered the Junior European title early and will be looking to keep his crown this coming season. In Espinho, the young gun from Italia will have his work cut out for him with a handful of potential threats, including Portugal’s very own Vasco Ribeiro who has been building experience on the QS series over the winter.
While only a few surfers have graduated from the past season onto the global QS scene and over the 20 year-old limit for competing in Juniors, the Espinho Surf Destination promises red hot action with no less than 8 surfers from 2013’s Top 10.
The Women’s field will also see its fair share of excitement with numerous threats to the anticipated dominancy of last year’s runner-up Leticia Canales Bilbao (EUK). The ASP 2-Star Men and Women Espinho Surf Destination Pro Junior is scheduled from June 26-29, 2014 in Espinho, Portugal.

The Espinho Surf Destination Pro Junior is made possible with the support of the following event partners: Câmara Municipal de Espinho (City Council of Espinho), ON2 (Programa Operacional Regional do Norte), Praia Golfe Hotel, Castros and SuperBock amongst others. The official media partner is Jornal i.
