ASP psychologist releases book "The Surfer's Mind"
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 April, 2014 - Richard Bennett was the first psychologist to work globally on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour. From 2000 to 2003 Rich conducted research and worked with hundreds of the worlds top competitive surfers, free surfers and big wave riders.
Along with discovering the inner secrets of high performance surfing, Rich also delved deeply into the heart and soul of happiness and enrichment through living an inspired life:
“While my book includes practical strategies to master the mind for enhanced performance, I also share ways to explore and cultivate deeper human values, such as gratitude, appreciation, acceptance, kindness, humility, relationships and unconditional love, which serve to illuminate the heart. I believe this is the reason The Surfer’s Mind has resonated so beautifully through and beyond the world of surfing”, says Rich.
Rich self published The Surfer’s Mind and after the launch did a classic surf trip around Australia visiting all the surf shops and book stores along the coast as well as doing talks for board rider clubs. Ten years on and now in its second print The Surfer’s Mind sells in 30+ countries, is a recommended text in secondary and tertiary education, and has become the “go to” guide for enhanced performance and enrichment in a wide range human endeavours:
“It’s been so rewarding and humbling to receive feedback from surfers and non surfers all over the world about how my book has touched and inspired them to connect more meaningfully with the people in their lives, with Mother Nature and the true desires in their heart”, Rich says.
The Surfer’s Mind has also been a wonderful stepping-stone for Rich’s personal and professional adventures. Rich has held several senior positions within Australian Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games Teams and Institutes of Sport, and recently evolved into his new private practice OM Psychology:
“I share oceans of gratitude and appreciation for all the people, organisations and waves that were part of co-creating The Surfer’s Mind and are now part of my continued service to community, humanity and the environment through my new practice OM Psychology”.
Rich is celebrating the 10th Birthday of The Surfer’s Mind throughout April by offering up to 30% off the recommended retail price and donating $5 per book sale to Parkinson’s Victoria. Rich explains his heartfelt gesture:
“My beautiful Aunty Margaret shared her beach house on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula with our family and it was here I first fell in love with the ocean and surfing. My beautiful Aunty Margaret has Parkinson’s and so I have chosen Parkinson’s Victoria to be the beneficiary of The Surfer’s Mind 10th Birthday celebrations”.
