Teenage Rampage Oz Invitational kicks off under-20 events

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 January, 2013 : - - Sydney -- Some of Australia’s most elite junior surfers will hit Maroubra from January 18-20, 2013 for the Teenage Rampage OZ Invitational Presented by Ocean & Earth. The fine-tuned event will see surfers aged under-20, under-16 and under-13 at the eastern Sydney beach and kick off the 2013 Surfing NSW calendar.

Narrabeen local and top-seed Cooper Chapman says: “This event is the perfect opportunity to get the ball rolling for the 2013 competition calendar. I haven’t competed for a few months, so it’ll be good to put the jersey on and get back into it.”

“Connor O’Leary is always really impressive, I imagine he’ll be a hard surfer to beat as well as some of the local guys... There’s nothing better than having a reputable comp in Sydney where we have the luxury of staying at home and only having a short drive to the event site.” Local surfers, Jackson Giles, Monty Tait and Max Mcguigan will all be representing the local Maroubra area.

Surfers who weren’t invited have the opportunity to qualify for the main event through trials that will take place on both the 18th and 19th of January. The format of the trials will run as follows:
• 20&Under male trials = Round of 24 with the top eight surfers progressing to the main round.
• 16&Under male trials = Round of 24 with the top eight surfers progressing to the main round.
• 16&Under female trials = Round of 16 with the top four surfers progressing to the main round.
• 13&Under male trials = Round of 16 with the top four surfers progressing to the main round.
• 13&Under female trials = Round of 8 with the top two surfers progressing to the main round.

Surfing NSW Event Manager Luke Madden says: “This renamed and unique event has generated a lot of interest since we announced it late last year. We feel it’s the perfect end to the NSW school holidays as well as the perfect way to launch the 2013 NSW surfing calendar.”

Since 2007, more than 2500 kids have participated in the O&E Teenage Rampage around Australia. 2013 will be the first year the former grassroots junior's series will be compressed and fine-tuned into an elite invitational event.

Ocean & Earth were behind the Teenage Rampage Series since it was created. Support Ocean & Earth who have been world leaders in quality surf hardware for over 30 years. Ocean & Earth will have the best leg ropes and grips for prizes throughout the event.

As part of their Carve eyewear's corporate sponsorship with Surfing NSW, they will join the event as a supporting partner. Fifty pairs of polarised Carve sunglasses will be given away to various participants as well as the daily winner of the Carve Of The Day.
