SemiFinalists Decided At The Soundwave Australian Junior Titles
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 December, 2013 - Kiama New South Wales - An epic day of high scoring surfing by Australia's very best young surfers as SemiFinalists across under 18 Boy's and Girls and Under 16 Boy's divisions were decided in the very good 1m (3 feet plus) surf at North Bomba Beach.
Excellent scores were the pathway to the SemiFinals and Sunshine Coast Queensland surfer Kai Hing stole the show with the highest wave score (9.83) and highest heat tally to-date (19.20 out of a possible 20) in his super charged Quarterfinal win in the under 18 Boy's.
Hing defeated West Australia's Jacob Wilcox who was big news recently in the surfing world after he defeated Kelly Slater in a world championship event in Portugal. Fortunately for Wilcox he placed 2nd behind Hing today to also advance to the Semi's.
The under-18 Boy's division appears the stand-out crop at this year's event and the semi's are stacked with 8 quality surfers.
Under 18 NSW pair Monty Tait (Maroubra) and local identity Mikey Wright (Culburra) advanced in 1st and 2nd respectively but were pushed to the line by young Victorian Cody Robinson who nearly took the heat late with some quality aerial moves.
This was probably the most exciting heat of the day as Mikey Wright struggled early in the heat but found an outstanding 9.8 ride late in the heat to hold onto 2nd place. Monty Tait's win was his third heat win of the day, all inclusive of excellent rides and big powerful top-to-bottom turns.
Queensland's Luke Hynd was also dominant today with some impressive high scoring rides in his winning Quartefinal and the Semifinals of this division are guaranteed to be exciting and close.
South Australia's Tayla Hannak dominated the Under 16 Girls Quarterfinals posting a very impressive 16 point two-wave combined heat tally win. Solid Quarterfinal winning performances in the Girls under 18 also came from Holly Wawn, Zoe Clarke and Holly-Daze Coffey.
Under 16 Boy's also ravaged today's good waves with Queensland's Quinn Bruce and Victoria's Joe Van Dijk the two two stand-out Quarterfinal winners.
There's every chance the event will relocate to Werri Beach tomorrow to get the best surf possible as this event heads towards the final stages. Friday and Saturday are marked as the days for finals across individual and schools divisions.
