Aussies back in action at the 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 May, 2008 : - - Plenty of action in the water for members of the Australian Junior Surfing team at the 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships overnight. All 12 team members were in action today with Owen Wright continuing his winning form in the under 18 boys with the highest score of the day, an 18.6 in his round three heat, almost 5 points ahead of second placed surfer Chad de Toit from South Africa.

In the under 18 girls, Tyler Wright and Laura Enever also continued their strong form with wins in their round 3 heats.

From Jake Sylvester, the only member of the under 16 boys team remaining in the qualifying rounds “Day 5 of competition was pretty intense today. Conditions are tricky and everyone is surfing amazing, I was stoked to get through my heat. The waves are supposed to pick up tomorrow so I can’t wait to get amongst it.”

Overnight results

Under 18 boys
Owen Wright registered another win in his heat in round 3 while Chris Salisbury was second in his round 3 heat.  Chris and Owen are now set to clash in heat 1 of round 4 as the competition heats up. Mitch Crews was third in his round 3 heat and will now move to the round 4 repercharge rounds to stay alive in the competition. Chris Friend won his round 2 repercharge heat and stays alive progressing through to round 3 of the repercharge rounds.

Under 18 girls
Laura Enever and Tyler Wright are maintaining momentum with wins in their round 3 heats and will now face each other in the first heat of round 4. Kirstie Jones could only manage to catch 3 waves in her round 3 heat in which she placed third behind American Courtney Conlogue and Hawaiian Coco Ho; Kirstie will now surf in the round 4 of the repercharge rounds.

Tiana McNeven surfed twice for two wins in the repercharge rounds 2 and 3 and now will move on to round 4 of the repercharge rounds with Kirstie Jones.

Under 16 boys
Jake Sylvester is the only member of the under 16 boys team remaining in the qualifying rounds with a second place in his round 3 heat while Max Ayshford and Thomas Woods both placed fourth in their round 3 heats. Reigning Australian under 16 champion Max Ayshford surfed in the tightest heat of the competition so far with only a point separating first and fourth.

Thomas Woods managed to catch only two waves in his heat for his fourth placing, Woods and Ayshford will now move to round 4 of the repercharge rounds. Khai Adams moves into round 3 of the repercharge rounds after coming second in his heat in round 2 of the repercharge rounds.

The 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships are being held in Seignosse Le Penon, France with the finals set down for Sunday 1st June.
