Peter Luke perished in huge surf on Tuesday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 August, 2014 - Australian surfer Peter Luke, 27, was surfing five-metre waves off Jelenga Beach in West Sumbawa on Tuesday when he went missing. His two friends used the boat they’d hired to search for him and eventually found his body on a nearby reef. AAP reported earlier his name was Peter Lore, which they have now corrected.

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine confirmed the man was from Victoria. He grew up in Warrnambool, before he moved to NSW. “Peter Luke tragically lost his life in a surfing accident in Bali, and is survived by Parents Alan and Mary and sister Laura, Nick Fox lost his life on Tuesday and is survived by parents David and Glenda,” Mr Napthine said.

Mr Napthine says its been a tough week for many, and his thoughts are with the families. West Sumbawa police chief Teddy Hendyawan Syarif says the surf at the spot known as Scar Reef was huge on Tuesday. Police were co-ordinating with Australian authorities to repatriate Mr Luke’s body, he said.
