ISA International event offers Level 1 training
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 April, 2015 - Kuta-Bali, Indonesia - The Asian Surfing Championships and the Rip Curl School of Surf in cooperation with the International Surfing Association announce the first-ever ISA International Surf Instructor Symposium to be held in Bali, Indonesia from 18-23 May 2015.
The six-day symposium will offer an ISA Level 1 Instructor Training Program, a Surf Rescue course by the Balawista (Bali’s Lifeguard Department), and an add-on Practical Coaching Workshop for those who wish to learn firsthand and rapidly gain their required teaching certification hours.
There will also be a special Presenter’s Training Program for qualified candidates, and a transfer course offered to those currently holding ASI or other instructor certifications to changeover to ISA certifications, the internationally recognized standard for safety and quality.
The ISA, recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for the sport of Surfing and SUP, proudly presents a professional, globally standardized, and high quality coaching accreditation program. As the sport of Surfing grows, there is a significant need for the complete training and accreditation of surf instructors in Bali and all across the Asian region.
Often there is no regulation and minimal opportunities for proper training, which is inherently dangerous as the many surf schools, surf camps, and independent individuals hire staff with no formal training or life saving skills to look after the beginning students. The ISA Accreditation ensures that surf instructors are maintaining the highest standard of safety and quality.
Australia’s Jamo Borthwick will be the keynote speaker and presenter for the symposium.
In addition to being an ISA Level 2 Instructor and Presenter, Borthwick owns the Walking on Water Surf School, is a licensed provider of Surf Life Saving Queensland accreditation and qualification courses, and is coach to a number of junior and upcoming local surfers on the Gold Coast of Australia.
As the epicenter of surfing in the SE Asian region, the island of Bali is the perfect location to host such an event, not only for its surf and beaches but also its accessibility, with an international airport and developed tourism facilities, and the Rip Curl School of Surf provides the ideal venue and facilities for the practical part of the symposium, as it is located just steps away from the sand in the Double 6 Beach area of Legian, surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and entertainment options for the attendees.
Bali’s Tourism Department is actively supporting the symposium and will be in attendance as well, for they are currently in the process of setting standards for commercial surfing activities on the island in cooperation with the Bali Lifeguard Department.
