Chance to surf low-crowd Kuta appeals to heaps of kids
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 April, 2014 - Kuta, Bali - The last stop of Rip Curl GromSearch 2014 happened in Bali over the weekend at the hotbed of Indonesian Surfing - Halfway, Kuta. Known for its great surfers and perfect beach break walls, the groms were so excited to have the chance to compete in a uncrowded line up at one of Bali's famous surfing spots.
With 80 Groms signed-up to compete in the perfect 2-3ft offshore conditions, and the temperature over 30 degrees, it was a long fun day for the groms. The Rip Curl team and the Halfway Kuta Boardriders helped make this last stop in the 2014 series an epic day, again finding the best Groms and offering them tickets to the National Finals later this year.
The grommets came from all over Bali to compete at Kuta, surrounded by parents and family these grommets were ready to go mad in uncrowded line-up! Surfers and event organisers arrived at 6.30 am at Kuta Beach to clear sky’s and near perfect conditions. For the first heat of the day, the waves were small but the judging panel - consisting of the famous Rip Curl pro team riders; Garut Widiarta, Oney Anwar, Pepen Hendrix and Darma Putra Tonjo recognised the best talents in display. . With the tide getting lower in the afternoon the conditions improved giving the remaining surfers in the Semi and Finals the chance to throw down some of their best moves.
This last stop of the tour also included the whole new division with Rip Curl encouraging the youngest kids to also be part of the event by putting one more division on the agenda for Under 12 yr olds. Our Rip Curl Grom rider, Tenshi Ishii made it to the final but had to settle for the 3rd place while Dhany Widianto and the Famous little Kian Martin took out the 1st and 2nd consecutive place, Ryuki Wida made it to the Finals but finished 4th.
Moving to Under 14th division, it was our team rider Ketut Agus who turned heads yet again and again, catching his rhythm early on, ripping his way to the final where he finished again in the 1st Place with Sonny Perrusel a very close second with just 1,5 points difference between them. Kin Golman took the 3rd place like during the stop #3 in Cimaja, and Saxon Mc Hutchison had to settle for 4th.

In the Under 16 Division, Raju Sena took out first place, Mega Artana took 2 better rank yesterday and finished in 2nd place. Ivan Sudena and Kaleb Subondis finished 3th and 4th place.
In the Girl’s division, the surf girl troops were rumbling on the ground and ripping in the water with Dhea Natasha shredding her way to 1st place with an considerable advance compared on other contestants, Dhea was followed by Denyer young 2nd place, Cinta Hansel in 3rd place and Taina Izquierdo in 4th.
While the competition was running, there were activities for kids awaiting their heats and the other kids that didn’t join the surfing competition. POSCA Pen and Rip Curl Pro riders were making a new meaning of art, fun and surf. Kids made their own artworks drawing with POSCA’S on used Surfboards in a best design competition.
For this last stop of the GromSearch 2014 series, the Rip Curl team also gave some special prizes to make everyone happy and to tell the grommets what they should be proud of. While our team rider Ketut Agus got the highest heat total with 47,4 points, Dhanny Widianto was focus on the highest single wave, he got 8,75 points. Because one prize was not enough for him he also won the most heat wins of the day!
As for the girls, The incredible Cinta Hansel got the highest heat total and highest single wave score for the girls with 33,2 points and 8,00 points. Sonny Perrussell, who was on fire yesterday afternoon got the prize for best manouevre. During the day we had the chance to see the biggest turn by the famous Raju Sena of Padma.

The Rip Curl rookie best perfomance was taken out by Leo and the Rip Curl biggest charger award went to by Pemo. To round off a great prize giving the Rip Curl sportsmanship award went to Ardah Samica.
Rip Curl GromSearch National Final awards were handed out to Ivan Sudena, Rossi Angga, Rio Waida and Putu Krisna. All 4 surfers will now have the opportunity to compete against regional finalists for a chance to win a place at the National GromSearch Finals to be held in Lembongan Island, Bali in September this year.
The event was wrapped-up by a very good vibe providing many smiles on the grom's faces at this - the last stop of GromSearch 2014.
The next event will be running in Sumbawa in May, for the first time in the event history, the 2014 International GromSearch Finals will be held in the perfect setting of Lakey Peak, Sumbawa, Indonesia.
