JAMAICA SURFING ASSOCIATION 2002 SURF CONTEST SERIES EVENT 2
Visiting Barbadian surfer, Zed, wins event
The visiting Barbadian surfer, Zed, took the Jamaica Surfing Associations second contest in its 2002 series on Saturday March 16th at the Lighthouse surfing beach at Port Royal. He held off the valiant charge of the Jamaican brigade led by second place finisher, 15 year old Icah Wilmot.
The conditions for the event were good, with shoulder high waves breaking over the shallow reef. 12 surfers contested the event, which comprised of four 3-man heats where the top two from each went through to the semi finals. The final was a very well fought 20-minute battle between Zed, Drum Drummond, Inilek Wilmot and Icah Wilmot. The competition was tight with the lead changing hands a number of times before the final whistle.
