Billabong Pro Tahiti
WSL World Tour Men's Event
14 - 25 August 2015
Spotty forecast this week while early next week could be strong
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 August, 2015 - Teahupo'o - After a day of high drama yesterday at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, Stop No. 7 on the Samsung Galaxy World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), inconsistent surf at Teahupo'o has prompted event organizers to call a lay day.
"It's definitely a beautiful day but there are really slow, inconsistent sets," Kieren Perrow, WSL Commissioner said. "We won't be running any heats today because there's just not enough coming through and not enough opportunity. We've also got a good looking forecast so we're going to go off for the day and come back tomorrow".
When competition resumes, up first will be Josh Kerr (AUS) and Adrian Buchan (AUS) in Heat 9 of Round 3.
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 7 a.m. local time to assess conditions and make a call for competition.
Surfline, official forecaster for the World Surf League, are calling for: Easing S swell prevails on Tuesday, with still mid size surf early and light wind/sunny skies. Smaller leftovers prevail for at least the first half of Wednesday with onshore SW to S wind. Thursday will see a pick up in shorter period S swell as unfavorable S to SSE wind prevails. Friday will see a building trend of medium size, mid period S swell as trades swing more to the SE. The surf will likely back down over the weekend as SE trades continue. Confidence continues to increase that the largest swell of the waiting period will build into Tahiti for Mon/Tue of next week.
The Billabong Pro Tahiti runs from Friday, August 14 to Tuesday, August 25, 2015 and is webcast LIVE at WorldSurfLeauge.com and via the WSL mobile app. The world's best surfing is also broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports in Australia, MCS Extreme in France, EDGE Sports in China, South Korea, Malaysia and other territories and on Globo TV in Brazil.
