Small surf today but forecast calls for swell on the way
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 August, 2015 - With only small and inconsistent surf on offer at Teahupo'o and improving conditions on the way, event organizers have called a lay day at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, Stop No. 7 on the Samsung Galaxy World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT).
"Conditions have improved since yesterday and there's a new South-West swell in the ocean," Kieren Perrow, WSL Commissioner said. "It's a little bit jumbled up though and the wind's not great either. We won't be running any heats today and we'll come back tomorrow. We're still tracking a decent swell over the next one to two days and then a great swell for the last two days of the event window".
When competition resumes, up first will be Josh Kerr (AUS) and Adrian Buchan (AUS) in Heat 9 of Round 3.
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 7 a.m. local time to assess conditions and make a call for competition.
Surfline, official forecaster for the World Surf League, are calling for: Short period SW swell and onshore S wind prevails Thursday morning with generally poor quality surf. Friday will see a building trend of mid size, mid period S swell as trades swing more to the SE/ESE and quality will improve. The surf will likely back down over the weekend as swell direction trends more to the SSE/SE and moderate+ trades continue. fairly solid, building, and long period SW swell fills in through Monday and likely holds into Tuesday morning before easing over Tuesday afternoon. Strong trades (side/offshore) prevail both days.
The Billabong Pro Tahiti runs from Friday, August 14 to Tuesday, August 25, 2015 and is webcast LIVE at WorldSurfLeauge.com and via the WSL mobile app.
