Player was watching friends from the base of a cliff in Ireland
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 March, 2015 - Bodyboarding’s three-time world champ, 36-year-old Ben Player was airlifted to a hospital from a remote Irish break yesterday. Player was not in the water but watching friends have a session at the base of a 200 foot cliff near Doonbeg.
Player was sitting out the session due to an earlier injury suffered at Spanish Point, according to the Clare Herald. Speculation is that a blow earlier in the day caused internal injuries. The extent of these injuries is not known yet.
Fortunately for Player members of the Irish Tow Surf Rescue Club were in the area and rushed to help Player when his condition worsened.
The Irish Coast Guard arrived at the scene, climbed down a ravine and assisted the injured man.
Player was then airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment
