Kirra to host auction to restore famous surf break

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 March, 2009 : - - The Bring Back Kirra campaign is set to receive a financial boost with proceeds from a charity auction and dinner, entitled ‘Shifting Sands’, a historical and scientific symposium, to go directly to the cause.

The charity auction which is being organised by the Surfrider Foundation Australia and supported by the Kirra Point Committee, will be held this Wednesday March 11 at Kirra. The event is being organised in order to raise money for the Bring Back Kirra campaign which has recently achieved a monumental victory with politicians at all levels backing the campaign and pledging to fund the restoration of the famous break.

The evening will be presented by surfing identities Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, academic Neil Lazarow and renowned Gold Coast lawyer Chris Nyst along with surfing media identity Andy McKinnon will be the evening’s MC.

The presenters will form an expert panel who will lead a discussion regarding Kirra Point. Mr Lazarow, spokeperson from the Kirra Point Committee, said that anyone who is interested in the campaign is invited to attend the event. “Anyone who cares about the future of Kirra Point should attend, it will be a fantastic opportunity to support a great cause and enjoy a delicious meal,” he said.

“The historical and scientific symposium will be a great opportunity to understand the scientific reasons behind what has happened at Kirra and what can be done to fix the problem,” Mr Lazarow said. The dinner auction will be held at Le Monde Café ~ Restaurant ~ Bar in Kirra and starts at 5:30pm.

Ticket prices include welcome drinks plus a three course meal. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased by contacting the Surfrider Foundation via email info@surfrider.org.au or call 5607 1217.
