Carabao Silver Dragon Sees the Return of Former Championship Teams
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 October, 2017 - In it’s fifth year as a professional prizemoney event, the Silver Dragon will headline the past two champion teams, defending champions Australian’s Dean Morrison and Koby Abberton and the 2015 Californian team of Alex Gray and Cheyne Magnussen.
2017 will also see the return of teams from Spain and Brazil, Eneko Acero with new partner Natxo Gonzalez Natxo for Spain and Joao Simonsen with Heiter Gonzalez.
Teams will battle for a $15,000.00 first prize over the three day event.
Competing teams are as follows:
2017’s Team Hawaii is comprised of a previous champion of the Silver Dragon, Jamie Sterling in 2014 and team-mate Reno Makani from the Big Island, a former participant on the Silver Dragon.
Team Australia sees the return of the defending 2016 champions Dean “Dingo” Morrison, Dean for his fourth straight year and Bra Boy Koby Abberton.
Returning from Spain Aneko Aneko a former ASP European Champion and this year teaming up with Naxto Gonzalez, young big wave charger who was a nominee in 2015’s WSL/XXL Big Wave Awards,
Returning from Brazil veteran big wave tow-in pioneer Joao Simonsen who started his surfing career in the Seventies and was the first Brazilian to tow Jaws in 1999 and this year teaming up with teenager Heitor Duarte a rising junior competitor from Maresias.
Team California sees the return of the 2015 Champions Alex Gray and Cheyne Magnussen. Both have previously represented in ISA World Championships for their respective USA and Hawaii Teams.
Selected from previous experience on the Silver Dragon are Zhao Yuan Hong(Alan) and Moyu Hong(Pablo).
