Surf Changing Poncho Aims to Change the Surf Industry
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 October, 2017 - Marlin Ray, a small surf and outdoor gear company based in Daly City, California, announces its release of the surf changing poncho, the world’s first carbon neutral, fair trade surf changing poncho made of 100% cotton.
The Surf Poncho by Marlin Ray is manufactured at Wildlife Works, a small eco-factory that protects wildlife in rural Kenya by providing sustainable jobs to rural workers who would otherwise be poaching or engaging in deforestation as a livelihood. The factory’s fair trade certification ensures worker safety, fair wages, health and other social benefits that are too often neglected by overseas factories.
The surf changing poncho is a multi functional and stylish piece of pre- and post-surf wear that can be used at the beach, on the streets, or mountain side.
The founders of Marlin Ray, Joyce Hu and Josh Berry, are both refugees from the global apparel industry and have witnessed first hand the perils of fast fashion, for humans and the environment. They envision a brand that creates highly functional, beautiful products and helps humans and the planet. The surf poncho by Marlin Ray is their first product resulting from this work.
