The Carve Pro

World Surf League QS1000
Maroubra Beach, Eastern Sydney beach, Australia
19 -  22 January, 2016

200 of Australia’s and the world’s most promising male and female surfers will compete in the event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 November, 2016 - The Carve Pro will once again call Maroubra home when the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 1,000 event kicks off on the Eastern Sydney beach in early 2017. The elite four-day competition – which will form the first of four stops on the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series  – will take place at Maroubra Beach from 19 – 22 January, 2016.

200 of Australia’s and the world’s most promising male and female surfers will compete in the event. Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden is excited to see the prestigious event kick off again for the second year in a row.

“2017 will be the second year the Carve Pro has been a QS1,000 rated event since its upgrade from a Pro Junior event. This year we saw some mind-blowing performances courtesy of some of Australia’s best, so it’s safe to say we’re anticipating big things again when the event kicks off early next year.”

Carve Director Matt Whyte said the event had gone from strength to strength over the last few years and is looking forward to seeing what transpires in 2017.

"2016 was the first year the Carve Pro ran as a QS event and we couldn't have been happier with the reception we received. Hopefully, we'll see some of Australia's best putting on an impressive show against the International competitors when the event gets underway."

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres said: “The Carve Pro is a great local event for Maroubra, bringing some of Australia’s and the world’s best surfers to Sydney. It’s great for local surfing fans and it’s great for local businesses too - the 2017 NSW Pro Surf Series will contribute over $1.8 million to the NSW economy in visitor spend, attracting 1,000 overnight visitors to the four event locations.”
