CELEBRITIES LINE-UP IN SURF FOR LIFE
Recently crowned world airshow champion Josh Kerr continued his winning form by spearheading his team to victory with a perfect ten-point ride in the Piping Hot Surf for LifeEfinal at Surfers Paradise Beach. The one-day tournament is staged to raise awareness of Here for LifeEan organization dedicated to the prevention of youth suicide.
The 17-year-old Coolangatta surfer was competing in his first event since claiming the world title in America last month and along with fellow team mates Sean Harrington and Dane Johnson easily outpointed the defending champions side of Cheyne Horan, Dion Aguis and Jenna Agius in the all Gold Coast final. Final scores out of a possible 40 were 32.33 to 24.07.
AFL legend Dermott Bereton took to the waves of the Gold Coast like it was a footy final at the MCG, with his team finishing equal third overall in the class line-up. Surfing with talented, teammates Kyle Robinson (Gold Coast) and Kara Webber (Gold Coast), Bereton gave his all for the cause that is close to his heart after the tragic loss of his father by suicide.
Surfers and celebrities contested the one-metre beach break waves of Surfers Paradise Beach as Schoolies descended on the Gold Coast to begin their weeklong celebrations.
The Ironman champion Ky Hurst, former world grommet champion Luke Munro, patron Murray Bingham and the Levitt surfing family.
The tournament was staged following the great success of the last two Surf for Life events in Victoria and in Queensland earlier this year, including fantastic media coverage and generous support from many celebrities
