Sunny Coast preps for second stop of QCC series
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 May, 2014 - The second stop of the three-event Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC) series takes place this weekend on the beautiful beaches of the Sunshine Coast.
As the series makes its way north, so does the race to bank crucial ratings points for the chance to take home the 18th annual Queensland Championship Circuit title as well as the privileged opportunity to surf in the 2015 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Quiksilver Pro trials.
With a fresh Southerly swell intended to arrive on Saturday, Surfing Queensland event organizers are confident the Sunshine Coast will deliver a generous blanket of waves along with preferred winds making for an exhilarating weekend of surfing.
Defending Champion to last year’s Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro Nick Vasicek (Coolangatta, QLD) will be looking to hold off an in-form Thomas Woods (Coolangatta, QLD) and defending his Sunshine Coast title having recently placed second to Woods in the final of the 2014 Chiko Alley Classic.
“The rivalry between these two competitors at the Alley Classic was distinctive well before the final,” said contest director Adam Yates.
“The level of surfing these guys put on during the Alley Classic was flawless and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table this weekend at the Sunshine Coast Pro,” Yates continued.
Competitors are also keeping their eyes on local talent Jack Duggan (Mooloolaba, QLD) who had an unfortunate finish to his 2013 Sunshine Coast Pro campaign, just missing out on the quarter finals needing only a second place or better in his round of 32 but finished in third.
Competitors and spectators can call the Surfing Queensland Event Hotline after 6:30am each morning of competition for a confirmed start time and location Ph# (07) 30306388. TV Feeds will be available to the media throughout this weekend’s Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro.
This event is proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council and Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (destination management organisation).
