KETCHUM, Idaho, January 6, 2004 ESmith Optics is proud to announce the
addition of top pro surfer, CJ Hobgood. “CeejEwill be in good company,
joining an already winning roster, which includes pros such as Asher Nolan
and Pancho Sullivan to name a few.

Hobgood has earned his cred, rising to the top in just a few short years. He
was ranked 5th in the world and finished 19th on the 2003 World Championship
Tour (WCT) circuit, despite missing six of the events due to a broken foot
suffered mid-way through the season. CJ started off 2004 with a trip to
Puerto Rico and is surfing at 100%. Look for him to come out hungry at the
kick-off event of the season, the WCT Quiksilver Pro in Queensland,
Australia in March.

A multiple amateur national champion, after only one year on the World
Qualifying Series (WQS) circuit, Hobgood turned pro in 1998. He won ASP
Rookie of the Year in 1999, and the following year was awarded the ASP Most
Improved Surfer title by his peers. A fierce competitor, CJ won the 2001 ASP
World Champion title, and became the second youngest winner in history.

A Florida native, CJ currently resides in Indialantic with his wife Rachel,
but travels the world in search of treacherous reef breaks like Tavarua,
Teahupoo and Pipeline. Hobgood enjoys competition and is known for his
tricks, adding signature moves like the “SupermanEand “Flying SquirrelEto
his repertoire. When he’s not surfing CJ is an avid motocross rider. Hobgood
adds Smith to his already growing list of sponsors including Rusty, Globe,
Body Glove and X-Track.
