Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 April, 2010 : - - In the head-to-head meeting of surfing's most influential icons, 3x ASP World Champion Tom Curren defeated fellow former ASP World Champion Mark 'Occy' Occhilupo at the 'Clash of the Icons' , which took place during the 2010 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach today.

The two titans of the Bells Bowl, contested the second round of their 'Clash of the Icons', which began last year at South Africa's Jeffreys Bay. Here at Bells, it was Tom Curren who took out the heat, with massive carves and smooth transitions showing he's lost none of that world championship touch.

The friendly contest between the two legends was a highlight of the day, and the Bells cliffs were lined with spectators and surfers watching Tom and Occy duke it out. If you missed the heat, make sure you check the heat on demand.

The rivalry between Mark Occhilupo and Tom Curren produced the most exciting competitive clashes in the history of surfing.  For the first decade of surfing’s ASP pro circuit Occy and Tommy dominated the world stage with their dueling performances.

Last year at the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay the two superstars re-ignited their intense rivalry, going head to head for the first time in over two decades. Each had won eight of their 16 previous encounters and the Clash of the Icons provided yet another chapter in their 26 year rivalry.

During the 1980’s no rivalry was more heralded than the Tom Curren/Mark Occhilupo challenge. Whenever the two surfers came up against each other in heats, sparks flew, temperatures rose and onlookers gathered to witness unmatched and historic wave-riding duels.
