Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 December, 2009 : - - Torquay - A fantastic line-up of Victoria’s best surfers along with some passionate high profile celebrity surfers will take to the surf at Torquay Point this Saturday  for the Victorian  leg of the Coastalwatch Surf For Life series.
For the likes of professional surfers  Nic Muscroft, Adam Robertson, Troy Brooks and Jack Perry it will be a no – pressure situation but they’ll still be aiming for 10 point rides as they team up with some of Australia’s most famous non-competitive surfers in an event that is all about fun, funds and recognising the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Getaway star Dermott Brereton, one of AFL’s toughest and greatest ever centre half forwards heads up a number of AFL surfers who will join in the action.
Adam Robertson might almost swap the prized Bell Trophy he collected at the ASP World Tour Rip Curl Pro last Easter where he placed second to team up with Brereton – Robbo has been a lifelong Hawks supporter and passionately cheered for Brereton when he was a part of the Hawks golden era of multiple premierships!
“I hope I’m surfing in Dermie’s team for sure – he can take care of our competitors’ out the back and I’ll try and score the required scores ” said Robertson who fondly remembers Brereton’s style of play!
Other high profile celeb’s include Rhys Urlich who recently won Make Me A Super Model, Robert “Dipper” Dipierdomenico, Sean Doherty acclaimed author of My Brother’s Keeper along with Murray Bingham and a host of others yet to be declared.
Although all in the name of ‘charity,’ this will be both a fun and high quality event – competitive surfers will want to win no-matter what’s at stake.
Can the celebrities surf?
The best way to find out will be to join in the fun at Torquay this Saturday with the action set to begin around 10am – If by chance Torquay is too small, they’ll head to Jan Juc Beach as the back-up venue.
A fun and enjoyable day for a worthwhile cause.
Partnering Coastalwatch and the Starlight Children’s Foundation in the event is the Quiksilver Foundation, which is a non-profit organization committed to benefiting and enhancing the quality of life for communities of boardriders across the world by supporting environmental, educational, health and youth-related projects.
