Tim Macdonald wins Chiko Burleigh Pro event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 May, 2014 - Gold Coast, Queensland - Currumbin’s Cory Ziems has taken out the 2014 Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC) today at the Chiko Burleigh Classic held at Burleigh Heads. Competitors were met with great conditions this morning before slowly deteriorating throughout the day, making for a tricky run at both the Chiko Burleigh Classic and the QCC title.

North Stradbroke’s Tim Macdonald (now living at Miami on the Gold Coast) posted his first win of the year by taking out the third and final event of the three-event series today, however it was Ziems with an accumulative points total that saw him take out the series.

At the beginning of today’s finals, four surfers stood in contention for the series title, but with Macdonald’s win over Coolum’s Dave Reardon-Smith, the title was placed firmly in the hands of the Currumbin surfer.

Coolangatta’s Nick Vasicek will also receive a wildcard into the 2015 Quiksilver Pro Trials along with Ziems after placing 2nd in the overall ratings. Macdonald defeated Kai Hing (Wurtulla, QLD), Andre Teixeira (Kirra, QLD) and Dave Reardon-Smith in the Chiko Burleigh Classic final.

The Sunshine Coast’s Jack Duggan managed a $1000 prize in today’s Bruce Lynton Land Rover expression session after nailing the biggest air of the super-heat with 20-plus surfers all hitting the Burleigh Heads lineup.  Today's event concludes the 2014 series that will ultimately decide the 2014 Team to represent Queensland at the forth coming Australian Titles.
