Toby Cracknell eyes double win while Westdrop dominates
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 October, 2014 - Toby Cracknell (Gosford, NSW) wants to make the Toyota Australian SUP Titles his own after dominating in the opening round of the surfing division at Palm Beach today. Fresh from his win the previous day in the technical races, Cracknell was one of the standout surfers in the opening heats and looks well capable of taking the double when the surfing finals are held tomorrow.
In a metre swell, Cracknell looked sharp to score the second highest heat total of the day in the men’s division with 14.00. He was only bettered by Kai Bates (Ulladulla, NSW) who scored 14.50 in the following heat.
The day’s biggest heat total went to defending women’s champion Shakira Westdorp who outclassed her opposition to score 14.75.

Another surfer looking to repeat his tech race heroics is the Sunshine Coast’s Lincoln Dews. He finished second to Cracknell in Thursday’s tech race and returned today to win his surfing heat with a score of 12.55
Others to perform well in the first round were former Australian champion Justin Holland (13.80) and defending champion Jackson Close (13.00), while 15-year-old Harry Maskell from Wamberal, NSW, will be a major threat when the quarter-finals begin tomorrow after scoring 13.80.
The toughest quarter-final will see Holland and Close joined by another former Australian SUP champion Beau Nixon.
