Tweets help remove the mystery out of great whites

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 February, 2015 - Dancing sharks and sharks with their own social media accounts are quite popular at the moment. Yesterday’s Superbowl halftime show featured a Katy Perry number with dancing sharks. Today, the inter web is chock full of GIFs of the cute, white pointers.

The media has also been going to town documenting Katherine the great white shark” who was fitted with a transmitter and has since had her path aquatic beamed out to researchers.

Currently Katherine is off the coast of Florida near Cape Canaveral  after traveling more than 10,000 miles around the U.S. coastline. Media darling Katherine is a 14-foot, 2,300 pound female. Katherine was tagged by OCEARCH and has her own Twitter handle @shark_katherine.

Her migration patterns follow seasonal water temps, or so researchers guess at this point. She is usually about ten miles off shore.
