Honolua Surf Company Welcomes Daniel Thomson to the Team

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 April, 2006 : - - Daniel Thomson, Honolua Surf Company’s first international team rider joined the brand just this month and has already scored great waves on a TWS and Surfer’s Path sponsored trip to the Galapagos Islands, starred in an upcoming surf movie and is about to be the subject of a major profile in a Surfer Magazine.

Thomson, a smooth-carving Australian natural footer hails from the North Coast region of NSW has had a groundbreaking year. Over the last 6 months he has been one of the principal stars in "Hydrodynamica," a documentary on the Fish/twin fin evolution, set for release later this year.

Most recently he, along with his “Hydrodynamica” costar Dave Rastovich, found amazing waves in Darwin’s famed South American archipelago, the Galapagos Islands. He’s now on his way to surf in the Cosmic Creek Contest in California later this month.

Daniel is the perfect match for the Honolua vibe,” says Honolua Surf Company Design/Marketing Director, Eric Diamond. “He’s a world class surfer with the unique, natural ability of riding any style of board with amazing grace.”

Along with being a formidable surfing talent, Daniel is also a skillful board shaper who has been mowing foam since he was a kid, under the guidance of his father Mark Thomson.

A well-respected shaper himself, Danial's dad learned his craft under the tutelage of short board pioneer Bob McTavish.

“We are proud to have such a multi-talented waterman" says Honolua Brand Manager Pat Fraley. “It’s what the lifestyle of Honolua Surf Company is all about.”

In 2004 Daniel met Richard Kenvin a former La Jolla surf star turned filmaker, who gave him a modified Lis Fish to try out at Lennox. The result was some amazing footage of Daniel absolutely taking the place apart. Basically, it was that footage that triggered the Lis Fish revival here in California back in the summer of 2004.

Daniel grew up in the rainforest between Byron Bay and Lennox Head where he honed his style in the long point waves the area provides. A natural athlete in the still-pristine environment of New South Wales, both Daniel and his father Mark run with their neighbor, design pioneer and filmmaker George Greenough, who is essentially Daniel's uncle. "How refreshing it is to go surfing with such a soulful person,” says Eric Diamond.
