Crowd pleasing surfing in challenging conditions in Port Macquarie
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 June, 2011 : - - Greeted with blue skies and 2 ft swell coming from south, day two of the Sundowner Holidays NSW Longboard Titles saw the begining of the Over 35 and Over 40 Men's divisions take to the waves. Mid North Coast surfer Ian Thompson (Diamond Beach) and Sawtell's Richard Smith from the North Coast of NSW displayed excellent surfing, with toes on the nose rides pleasing crowds and judges on the beach at Bonny Hills.
With Rainbow Beach Bonny Hills providing good Longboard conditions early in the day, it was Port Macquarie and surrounds surfers who dominated heats for the second day of competition. Craig Munro (Port Macquarie) powered through his heat with a number of maneuvers in the critical section of the wave, making it through to the first qualifer after winning his heat in round 1 of the Over 35 Men's division.
The VB slab of the event had a strong contender today with Jason Skinner (Bomaderry) displaying a long nose ride and working the wave until it reformed and ending with a deep barrel, which secured him a place in the 1st qualifier for the Over 40 Men's division. Due to diminishing conditions in the afternoon the Open Men's 9ft has been re scheduled for first thing tomorrow morning, please see the website for updated running schedule.
Competition tomorrow will begin at 7:30am and is fully mobile between Town Beach, Rainbow Beach, Grants Beach, Flyns Beach, Lighthouse Beach and North Haven Beach all venue options. The daily Running Schedule and Contest location will be confirmed on the Event Hotline (0458 247 212) after 6:45am tomorrow (Wednesday 22st June).
