Ace claims Tahitian victory & proves tuberiding prowess
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 August, 2013 : - - Dragon's Adrian 'Ace' Buchan showed his tuberiding prowess at Tahiti's infamous Teahupo'o to claim victory over Kelly Slater at the 2013 Billabong Pro Tahiti.
Ace fought off fierce competition from the world's best in perfect 6-8 foot barrels, claiming the title in one of the most prestigious events on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT).
With astoundingly deep forehand barrels, Ace posted exhilarating back-to-back 9-point rides in the final to take out the win over Slater and solidify his place as one of the world's best tube riders.
"I can't believe it," Ace said. "What an incredible day... Every time I paddled out, I told myself that I only had to catch two waves. That was my mantra through each heat and it worked out well for me."
Ace Buchan is a longtime member of the Dragon family, coming on board 13 years ago in 2000. Today's impressive victory marks Ace's second ASP World Tour event win, following the Quiksilver Pro France in 2008. By winning this event, Ace moves into the ASP WCT top 10 rankings and gains momentum heading to the next stop at Lower Trestles starting September 15-21.
