Rastovich, Del Moro, Hill and The Bella Vita cast ready for red carpet
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 September, 2013 : - - The cast and crew of the new movie Bella Vita, a film that chronicles artist Chris Del Moro on a surfing pilgrimage back to his ancestral homeland of Italy, will gather at the Basque Country’s Wavegarden on Friday, 20th September. Here a private screening will take place ahead of the film’s world premiere at the 61st San Sebastian Film Festival on Sunday 22nd September.
In the movie, filmmaker Jason Baffa traces the artist, surfer and environmentalist Del Moro on a pilgrimage back to his ancestral homeland of Italy to explore a culture where old-world-convention intersects a modern surf lifestyle. Del Moro was joined by Dave Rastovich, Lauren Hill, Conner & Parker Coffin and Italian surfers Alessandro Ponzanelli and Leonardo Fioravanti in what is an intimate and powerful journey of self-discovery.
“My father’s side of my family comes from the Adriatic sea, on a small island called Vis,” said Rastovich, one of the world’s best known freesurfers and environmental activists. “And so when Chris invited me to go to Italy and be in the film I was stoked to be in a familiar part of the world and to actually surf too.”
Rastovich’s partner, Lauren Hill, a renowned surfer, environmentalist and broadcaster and whom Rastovich calls, “one of our culture’s great voices for female surfers,” also stars in the film. “There isn’t a lot of women surfing in Italy,” said Hill, “so hopefully we can play a small part in changing that."
Rastovich, Hill and Del Moro will add a splash of salt water to the sea of celebrities present at the San Sebastian Film Festival. “It’s been a privilege to be part of the whole cultural and creative process,” said Rastovich. “It’s also not everyday you get the chance to walk down the red carpet at a major international film festival. It should be an incredible experience.”
Bella Vita will be screened at the San Sebastian Film Festival as part of the Savage Cinema program. This is non-competitive section created in collaboration with Red Bull Media House and will showcase the best in adventure and action sports movies on the big screen.
Lauren Lyndsey Hill Bio
Lauren Lyndsey Hill, environmentalist, activist and surfer who has been described as “one of our culture’s great voices for female surfers”, is back on European soil currently touring Italy and Spain with a new movie by artist Chris del Moro called Bella Vita.
Hill, along with her partner Dave Rastovich, Conner & Parker Coffin and Italian surfers Alessandro Ponzanelli and Leonardo Fioravanti, join their good friend Del Moro in an intimate and powerful journey of self-discovery. It provided Hill with both a perfect opportunity to further surf, travel and explore with her closest friends and continue her passion and education for a life around the ocean.
Hill, a talented surfer and former US longboard champion, has degrees in Environmental and Social Science and has forged a career out of her passions of surfing, marine conservation and gender issues. "I’m really inspired by humans trying to right the wrongs they see in the world through non-violent, compassionate means," said Hill. "And now having joined the Billabong team, I’m stoked to have some support in conjuring new projects and explorations."
Lauren recently participated in the Transparentsea Voyage, traversing 270 miles down the Californian coastline on an 18-foot kayak to raise awareness about coastal environmental issues there. She also serves as an ambassador for Women for Whales and Surfers for Cetaceans. She also created Seakin.com which she says is "a surfing/activism organization that aims to share stories from within ocean culture and to create opportunities for activated camaraderie."
After the world premiere in San Sebastian, Hill will do a screening tour of Europe as well as other media and promotional opportunities.
