Top juniors headed to Geraldton

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 July, 2014 - The best male and female junior surfers from across the state are preparing to hit the road and head to Geraldton this weekend for third and final event of the WA Junior Surfing Titles presented by SunSmart.

The surf rich Batavia Coast will play host to close to 90 competitors in what is set to be an action packed finish to an exciting event series that started in Margaret River back in March and last stopped at Trigg Beach in June.

The prestigious competition will determine the final make up of the 2014 WA Junior Surfing Team that will compete on home soil at the upcoming Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Yallingup in December.
"There's a lot on the line this weekend," said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. "All the kids are striving towards National Titles which is the pinnacle event for junior surfers in Australia."

A number of this weekend's competitors have already made waves both nationally and internationally, including Margaret River's Jacob Willcox (Margaret River) who is out to claim his third consecutive U/18 Junior Men's State Title. Willcox will be joined by an impressive list of young surfers from as far a field as Carnarvon and Albany all hungry for success in Geraldton.

“We have some unbelievable young talent coming out of our main surfing regions (Metro, Peel, South-West, Great Southern, Mid-West) right now," said Surfing WA High Performance Manager, Mike McMonigal. "It's great to see the depth of talent spread right across the state."

High Performance Coaches from each region are going to be on hand mentor their squad surfers, with the standard of surfing expected to be extremely high with surfers gaining invaluable on-beach feedback and coaching during the event.

A building swell is set to keep things interesting this weekend, but with a variety of locations at their disposal event officials are confident of finding the very best conditions on offer in the Geraldton area with competition set to start at approximately 7:40am Saturday and finals concluding on Sunday.
