Day one of the Tradies Surfmasters presented by NRMA rolls

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 November, 2014 - Wanda Beach, Cronulla: The 2014 Tradies Surfmasters presented by the National Roads & Motorists' Association (NRMA) crowned the champions of the longboard, SUP and kneeboard divisions in clean two-to-three foot waves at Wanda Beach today.

2014 NSW Over-40’s State SUP Champion Andrew Cassidy (Mona Vale) dominated the field in the Over-40s SUP division, successfully posting a 14.83 heat total (out of a possible 20 points). The solid heat total left fellow finalist and runner-up Gareth Grant (Collaroy) chasing a solid 9.84 wave score to take the lead from Cassidy.

2013 Over-45 Tradies Longboard Champion Paul Detmold (Miranda) surfed down a division this year and managed to claim the Over-40s Longboard division with a series of respectable scores. Despite the best efforts of runner-up Rod Aulburn (Fairlight), Detmold’s razor sharp turns proved too much for his opposition as he ran away with the win.

Glenn Moore (Loftus) managed to lock in an impressive win in the Over-45 Mens Longboard. The local natural-footer posted two heat totals in excess of 11.00 points to take respective wins across his dual finals.

Maroubra locals George Haskas and Wayne Dive went neck and neck for victory in the Over-50 Mens longboard with both surfers trading off a series of solid scores. However, when the final heat wrapped up it was Haskas who got the nod by 1.00 point over his fellow Maroubra finalist.

Cronulla Beachfest will continue to see food and wine stalls, nostalgic cars, swimwear parades and live music in Dunningham Park tomorrow. The family friendly festival is thanks to Jumbo events. For more information on the festival check out www.beachfestcronulla.com
