Florida Hosting Last Stop of Quiksilver's 2006 Surf Shop Challenge

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 August, 2006 : - -Huntington Beach, CA -- Quiksilver, Inc. (NYSE:ZQK) – The time has come for Sebastian Inn, a spot just a few miles north of the world famous Sebastian Inlet, to again welcome the Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge presented by Surfer Magazine.

On Friday, August 18, 2006, two team riders and two shop employees from several core surf shops in the Southeast region of the United States will descend upon the white sand beaches of Florida to battle for the Southeast Regional championship.

Last year’s event was saved when howling winds suddenly went light offshore and groomed the three-to-four foot faces into perfect contest ramps. Quiet Flight Surf Shop, led by former WCT pro Bryan Hewitson, David Awbrey, Nick Piette, and Buddy Favor, took full advantage of the unexpected conditions and used them to blast their way through the competition on their way to a second consecutive regional championship trophy.

This year, with a similar roster, they have the chance to become the first ever three-time regional champion. Although they would love to translate such a victory into a win during the national championships in Southern California, they’re playing it smart by not looking that far ahead just yet.

“Last year’s Nationals is still on our mind,” said Quiet Flight team rider Nick Piette, “but we need to just focus on one thing at a time. We can’t put all our eggs in one basket and assume that we’re going to win the Qualifier. There are way too many good teams on the East Coast for that.”

At each event DC Shoes awards an extra $250 cash prize to the surfer that pushes the envelope and rises above the rest. The DC Most Progressive Surfer Award will be handed down at each regional event, and in addition to that prize, a $1000 will also be awarded to the most progressive surfer during the National Championships in California. At the last event in Hawaii, the coveted prize was bestowed upon Local Motion team rider, Keanu Asing who went big on a frontside air reverse to walk away with the check.

Originally conceived to provide a fun and competitive format for the hardcore surf shop riders, the SURFER Shop Team Challenge was one of the most popular and exciting Southern California contests of the early 1980s. After several years on hiatus, the competition made a wildly successful return two years ago as the 2004 Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge.

Prizes for the competitors include product from Quiksilver, Sector 9 and DC Shoes. Regional champions earn a trip to California to fill their spot in the National Championships, as well as VIP passes to the 2006 Surfer Poll and Video awards. National champs will walk away with a winner-take-all $10,000 prize and the peace of mind in knowing that they own the title.
