Dermott Brereton, Adam Robertson and Nikki Van Dijk Surfing For Life at Torquay

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 January, 2010 : - - Torquay -- One of AFL’s top competitors Dermott Brereton teamed up with two of Victoria’s top surfers in Adam Robertson (Portland) and Nikki Van Dijk from Phillip Island to win the  Coastalwatch Surf For Life Charity event at Torquay today!

Brereton freely admitted to an awesome finals record on land playing AFL but was unsure he could carry that great record through to the ocean – he need not of worried for on this occasion his team mates were Victoria’s top male and female surfers in Adam Robertson and Nikki Van Dijk.

“It’s been a great Day at Torquay and the Surf For Life is all about fun and surfing for a fantastic charity in the Starlight Children’s Foundation! ... It was a pleasure to team up with Robbo and Nikki who put my surfing to shame but the finals record has improved and I’ll take today’s win!”

Dermott loves his surfing but added, comparing my surfing to my AFL career – lets just say I surf to a level equivalent to a suburban leagues seconds back pocket player! Star Melbourne forward Brad Miller was the celebrity in the team that placed second – Miller, an enthusiastic summer surfer teamed with Victoria’s professional surfer Nic Muscroft and Phillip island surfer India Payne.

“Dean Bailey doesn’t mind me surfing during the summer, he actually surfs himself – but he won’t be too happy about me placing 2nd today” said Miller. It was all about fun and funds and awareness of the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the large crowds at Torquay enjoyed some great surfing from Robertson, Van Dijk, Muscroft and Payne – and some entertaining surfing from Dermie and Miller!

Partnering Coastalwatch and the Starlight Children’s Foundation in the event is the Quiksilver Foundation, which is a non-profit organization committed to benefiting and enhancing the quality of life for communities of boardriders across the world by supporting environmental, educational, health and youth-related projects.
