Aussie juniors pumped on action packed event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 July, 2014 - Some of NSW’s best junior surfers can look forward to a wide variety of land-based functions when the NSW State Junior Titles roll into Port Macquarie from the 21st to the 27th of July.

Nearly 350 junior surfers from all over NSW will duke it out in the prestigious competition, which will determine the NSW team for the upcoming Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Yallingup, Western Australia in December.

The NSW Schools Titles will occupy the first two days of the event. 2014 will be the fourth year Surfing NSW will combine the NSW School Surfing Titles into the competition.

The land-based celebrations will take place at Town Green Inn, and are set to begin on Sunday 20th July with an opening ceremony and conclude with a final presentation on Sunday 27th July.

As part of the opening ceremony, former World Championship Tour competitor and local Port Macquarie surfer Darren O’Rafferty will address event competitors and provide insight into what it takes to compete at surfing’s highest level.

“I’m really looking forward to speaking to some of the competitors in the NSW State Junior Titles,” said O’Rafferty. “As a former competitor in the event, it’s a great opportunity for me to hear what goes through the mind of someone who is competing in the competition and how they want to attack their heats.”

O’Rafferty added: “The NSW State Junior Titles have always been an incredibly tough event and over the last few years the calibre of junior surfing has sky-rocketed, so it’s a safe assumption that you’ll probably be seeing a couple of future World Championship Tour competitors in the field.”

Other functions include: A Surfing NSW judging seminar and trivia night (Monday 21st), School State Surfing Titles presentation (Tuesday 22nd) and a pizza, ping-pong and movie night (Thursday 24th).

Surfing NSW will also host their free CPR and board rescue course, Surfers Rescue 24/7 at the event site on Tuesday 22nd of July and will be available for competitors, their families and the local community.
