Freestyle and Extreme Athletics collaborate on "gym-to-surf crosstrainer"

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 April, 2015 - Costa Mesa, California - Today Freestyle, in collaboration with Extreme Athletics, announced the release of the new Tide Trainer, designed to crossover from the gym to surf to help prepare serious athletes for peak surfing performance.  A new edition to Freestyle’s Tide Collection, the Tide Trainer combines tide data with multiple performance timing functions for surfers looking to get in better shape, catch more waves and have more fun.

“While there’s no better surf training than surfing itself, we also believe that participating in a land-based training program can help bring significant benefits to your surfing experience,” said Freestyle Brand Manager Chad LaBass.  “We are excited to partner with Extreme Athletics to develop some very practical surf specific training programs designed to be easily set up using the Tide Trainer’s multiple interval timers.  It’s time to get in the best surfing shape of your life.”

The obvious choice for surfers, standup paddlers and fitness enthusiasts to maximize their fitness goals, the Tide Trainer features: tide data for 150 beaches, sunrise/sunset times, five interval timers and preset heat timers, 100-hour chronograph, 200-lap workout memory with dated training log and customizable training reminders (such as nutrition and hydration).

“Extreme Athletics is at the forefront of ‘surf training’ and Freestyle Watches is an icon in the surf industry,” said Paul Norris, Extreme Athletics CEO and Co-Founder. “Progressive surfing is at an all-time high and we feel this partnership helps capture both realms; surfing and training. Finally, a watch on the market that can assist us in the gym as well as give us tide data. I’m extremely happy with this partnership and we are excited to see the results from our athletes on both sides.”

As the “Official Timing Sponsor” of Costa Mesa-based gym Extreme Athletics where the surfers go to train, Freestyle and Extreme Athletics are also collaborating on a downloadable PDF travel workout and video to be released later this spring.  Each land-based surf specific training program will be designed to help athletes improve their strength, power, balance, endurance and agility while traveling or when they can’t make it into the gym. As part of the partnership, Extreme Athletics expert trainers will design the workout to be programmed using the Tide Trainer’s multiple interval timers.

Extreme Athletics offers surf specific training programs to everyone from kids just beginning a competitive surfing journey, to pros chasing the world title, to surfing enthusiasts looking to improve their time out in the water.

The Tide Trainer is available at authorized retailers now for $110.
