Four clubs fought for one chance to compete at national final

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 February, 2017 - Clean conditions greeted four local boardriders clubs for the start of competition today in the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series IV National Final Trials at Newcastle Beach.

Bay Area Boardriders, Redhead Boardriders Club Inc., Newcastle East End Boardriders and Frenchmans Boardriders battled it out in fun 2ft peaks in an effort to claim the final position in the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series IV National Final.

Things went right down to the wire with all four clubs in contention when the teams heat hit the water at lunchtime after thunderstorms delayed the running schedule for half an hour.

It was Frenchmans Boardriders who came out on top when the dust settled, earning themselves the right to take on the best boardriders clubs in the country when the main event gets underway at 8am tomorrow morning local time.

Frenchmans member Jamie McMorland anchored for his club in the final teams heat, getting the mid-range score required to send his club mates into raptures on the sand.

“The team event is definitely way more nerve racking but you just want to get it done for your club and we knew we could get the score,” McMorland said.
