ADH Open 2016
14 - 21 May, 2016
Over 130 surfers are registered in the Open Men's category
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 May, 2016 - Again, this year, Seignosse will host the German Universities Championships, ADH Open 2016. During the ADH-Open organizers are expecting around 200 competitors and around 1000 guests from universities all over Germany. Around 200 competitors will compete in this new edition.
The combination of perfect beach-breaks, first warm temperatures of summer and the biggest German surf event of the year brings many German students to the French Atlantic coast. In less than a weeks’time, around 200 competitors from German universities will battle it out for the title of ‘Best surfer in Germany’. Especially hard is the ‘Mens Open’ Category.
Over 130 surfers are registered in the Open Men category and known faces from competitions over the past years will be present. Big names such as, Paul Günther (Munich, 1st Place Longboard category) or Alexander Tesch (Uni Hamburg, 1st Place Mens Open category). It makes for one of Germany’s biggest surf events on the yearly calendar.
The German Champion from 2015, Marc Piwko, from Cologne is back and ready to defend his title. The 20 year old got a lot of attention for his win and is now a team rider for O'neil and Wavetours. Marc is modest before the big audience at the ADH-Open and told us “I am pretty nervous to be honest, because the people expect a lot now after the surf DM.“
Also, Valeska Schneider, from Munich (1st Place Women’s Longboard category and 4th Place Women's Open in 2015) is back this year. The ambitious student from South Germany did a semester abroad in Australia and is well prepared for this year’s event.
That being said, the competition is still wide open and anything can happen. Lots of students surf and train in the ‘Eisbach’ river, which is in Munich or they spend a lot of time surfing in the North
and East Sea. So the possibilities of making the podium are firmly in their sights. This event will be housing over 800 guests in the Belambra Bungalow Parc in Seignosse. Also there will be a lot of guests in the surrounding area who will be joining the special vibe created by the contest.
The organisers of this huge German surf event expect more than 1000 fans on the main event days. Therefore, there will be a lot of side events. There will be live bands and concerts, a Surf Movie night, organised beach-clean-ups and a surf flea market with the locals from the Hossegor outlets.
Everyone is welcome and you can expect plenty of good entertainment. A hand full of students have decided to perform a Beach Volleyball tournament and ‘Catch Surf’ are offering some surfboards for testing and there will be promo stands from Black Roll and Restube with cool stuff to try from their range of products.
